“50 Capitols in 50 Days,” a campaign spearheaded by Burr Ridge, Ill. resident and business owner Mickey Straub.
About a month ago, when Mickey first broached the idea to me, I was hooked right away–I immediately “got” what he was looking to do. In that respect, I’m not extraordinary–pretty much everyone can surmise that his plan is to get to all of the capitols across the country in a 50-day span.
After that, it’s simply a matter of fleshing out the “why” behind Mickey’s plan. And he’s got an articulate and resonant “why,” as well as a strong theme of “reclaiming” the values and principles of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln.
Mickey will be driving a Lincoln (Town Car) and reading the Gettysburg Address as he “invites others to recite” the historic words with him. His first stops are in Pennsylvania and New York this coming Tuesday, Sept. 4.
The story is laid out on the media page of the website announcing his ambitious endeavor.
Over the past five years, my firm, Inside Edge PR, has provided public relations and media relations assistance on a few other initiatives that Mickey has launched. Each time, he has brought his unique blend of creativity, passion and professionalism to the process.
This latest effort, which has a robust website at www.ReclaimingLincoln.com, has followed the same pattern.
As a result, thanks largely to Mickey’s extensive preparation and organization and support team, I am confident that there will be many Americans who will also have the opportunity not only to “get” 50 Capitols in 50 Days, but to get behind it as the join in support of his goals.
P.S. For those who pay attention to such things, you should know that “capitol” refers to the building itself, while the city in which it is located is referred to as the “capital.” Because Mickey is visiting each physical building, state by state, we are referring to the campaign with the “-ol” spelling.
Pitching a story can be much like selling a product–if you can command attention and capture imagination from the get-go, then you’ve got a clear advantage over your competition.
Such is the case with
